Summary
What does it mean to be strong and courageous in a world full of uncertainty, anxiety, and hardship? In Joshua 1, verses 1–9, God commissions Joshua to lead His people into the Promised Land—not on the basis of Joshua’s strength or skill, but on the unshakable promise of God’s presence.
This sermon explores three foundational truths for real faith in a broken world:
- The Pattern of God
Before God gives a command, He gives grace. Like in Exodus, God first assures His people of His presence and promises, then calls them to respond in faithful obedience. - The Promise of God
The true gift isn’t merely land or security—it’s God Himself. His presence, not our performance, is what makes us prosperous and strong. - The Presence of God
Strength and courage are not self-generated. They are the fruit of meditating on God’s Word and resting in His promise to be with us wherever we go.
God’s command is not a burden—it’s a call to live boldly, knowing we are not alone. Ultimately, Jesus is the greater Joshua who secures our eternal home by losing His. He was forsaken so that we could be brought near. In Him, we have the strength to face trials, the courage to obey, and the peace of knowing we are never abandoned.
