David and Pearl grew up believing they had to hold everything together on their own. For Pearl, immigrating to the United States with a fractured family brought shame, distance, and a deep sense of being the “lost child.” For David, growing up as a pastor’s kid created the pressure to appear strong and composed, even when loneliness and fear were quietly taking root. Both learned to survive through control, self-reliance, and the belief that vulnerability would cost them more than it would heal.
Yet through the unexpected gift of gospel-shaped community, God met them in the very places they tried hardest to hide. Friends became family. Honest conversations replaced silent striving. And slowly, they began to see that God was not asking them to manage their lives, but to rest in the finished work of Christ. Even parenting their daughter, Noelle, has become a living reminder of how freely and fully God loves His children.
In this Metro Story, watch how God dismantled their need for control, met them in their uncertainty, and taught them to rest in a Savior who holds their past, present, and future with unshakeable love.
